Fossilized ripples in the mud stone at Telpyn Point.

We can tell that these are wave formed ripples by their symmetrical profile - current ripples formed by rivers are shallower on the upstream (stoss) side and steeper on the downstream (lee) side of the ripple, this gives an unsymmetrical profile to the ripples.

The brown staining is caused by the oxidisation of the iron in the mudstone.

The pencil is for scale only.
